About Epilepsy Warriors
Welcome to Epilepsy Warriors, where I am dedicated to raising awareness about epilepsy and sharing the stories of individuals and families affected by this condition. Started by Beth Baker-Carey, my mission is to spread awareness about epilepsy and help those living with epilepsy find information, resources and advice.
About me
I have Idiopathic generalised combined epilepsy I suffer with tonic clonic, absence and partial awareness seizures. My main triggers are lack of sleep, stress, dehydration and low blood sugar but i have also experienced seizures due to excessive alcohol consumption which is why i dont drink as regularly as I did and i also dont drink to excess. I was diagnosed 10 years ago but have had seizures from age 2, the doctors diagnosed these as febrile convulsions but I continued to have seizures beyond age 6 (which is when febrile convulsions should cease) I went undiagnosed until I had a 6 minute seizure at college in 2014. I am grateful to my sisters and my best friends that helped me when I had to catch up on my course work at college and very nearly missed out on getting into university but I did and I got my 2:1 degree in Bsc Forensic and Analytical Science in 2020; I met many friends for life. I hid my epilepsy for years as myself and my family had a misunderstanding and lack of any general knowledge about epilepsy and I didn't take care of myself but my seizures became more frequent and intense in 2021 and this gave me the strength to want to gain more knowledge about myself and epilepsy in general which is why I started an instagram account @epilepsywarriors which allowed me to create a support network for myself and fellow epilepsy warriors in the UK and around the world.
I am so thankful to my friends and family for all their support over the years.
